The Red Fort
19.02.2008
Yesterday morning we visited another UNESCO world heritage site(1) , the Red Fort, which was a beautiful 3km long red sandstone, octagonal in shape. It is said to have taken 9 years to build (2) , and the result is stunning. There is a small bazaar inside, and we did a little shopping and looking around there.
In the afternoon, we went to see one of the most visited spots in all of India. The Rajghat is the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation. There was a simple black marble square over the site, and it has his last words inscribed on it. Next to the Yamuna River, this historical site was amazing to see.
We have had a wonderful week in Delhi, the capital of India, and now we are looking forward to visiting Jaipur. My companions and I are going to take a train to transport ourselves to our next destination. We will be taking the Ajmer Shtbdi train from Delhi to Jaipur, departure time 0610, arrival time 1045. We are taking a first class coach with air conditioning and it will cost 885.00 Rupees (which is about 22.42 CAD). Looking forward to Jaipur.........
